HKUST Summer Virtual Study Abroad

Office of Global Learning offers summer virtual courses to our students. Join one of the programs which takes place between June and August and spans from 2 weeks to 10 weeks.

Highlights of the program

  • Real-time classes
  • Interaction with course instructors and students from different parts of the world
  • Comprehensive courses offered in a large variety
  • Different types of summer programs available
  • Credit-bearing >> Credit transfer information
  • Special financial support available for Summer 2021 >> Details

Eligibility

  • HKUST full-time undergraduate students. Year 1 and final year students* are also eligible to apply.
  • Students who have participated in summer programs offered by HKUST Office of Global Learning (OGL) or Schools before can also apply. Special consideration may be given.
  • CGA 2.0 or above (Students with CGA below 2.0 may also apply. Offers may be given with special consideration.)
  • Students applying to programs with additional requirements set by the host institution must satisfy those requirements.
  • Students who have not withdrawn from any summer programs offered by OGL in the past nor been given an offer in any previous rounds for the same Summer Term.

*Note: For final year students, please ensure that you do not need the study abroad credits for meeting graduation requirements as there is insufficient time to process credit transfer requests in time for students to graduate in November.

Program Categories

  • Participation in these programs require HKUST nominiation. HKUST students must apply through the HKUST Office of Global Learning. The host institutions do not accept applications directly from individual students.

There are two types of programs:

  • Partnership: HKUST partners with these top tier institutions to offer HKUST students summer study abroad opportunities with partnership benefits, which may include application fee waiver or tuition fee reductions. HKUST students must apply and be nominated by HKUST. The specifics of the partnership benefit for each program can be viewed by clicking on the below program links. Credits are transferrable.
  • Sponsored: These are sponsored programs offered by HKUST Office of Global Learning with an aim to encourage study abroad in destinations that are less familiar to HKUST students, with the view to further broadening the global opportunities offered to HKUST students. Tuition and cultural program costs will be covered by HKUST. Students will be allowed to participate in Summer Sponsored program once only during the undergraduate study.

Tips on applying:

  • In order to meet the nomination deadlines as set by certain host institutions, HKUST may process certain applications in sequence. If quotas are filled in Round 1, the program will not open for Round 2 applications. So, students are advised to apply early; preferably during Round 1.

Credit transfer

  • Upon successful course completion, the host institution will issue an academic transcript listing the course taken and the grade obtained. To apply for credit transfer, you should submit an online application to ARO for approval within one month after program completion.
  • After ARO processes the credit transfer, these will be reflected on your HKUST transcript. Credits obtained can be transferred, while grades obtained at the host institution are not transferred to HKUST. The transferred grade is a “T” grade. The grade does not count towards your CGA or GGA at HKUST.
  • For details, visit the ARO website.

Application Deadline

Round 1: 28 February 2021 >> Extended to 4 March 2021

List of Programs (Summer 2021)
