Students can apply for these programs with the host institution directly with a registration with Office of Global Learning. Students can apply for funding through the HKUST Short-Term Study Abroad Allowance.  Local students on government TSFS means-tested grant/loan can apply for the SSE/SSEBR to support your program participation.     The International Summer Program is located in the picturesque village of Strobl in the Salzkammergut region, one of Austria's most attractive summer vacation areas. The four week program offers high level European Studies courses (taught in English) in the morning and German language courses in the afternoon. The language courses are offered at four different levels of proficiency. Students are required to attend courses amounting to 10 ECTS.

    The Amgen Scholars Program at The University of Tokyo aims to provide undergraduate students from different countries (including some from Japan) who are committed to or who are considering a career in biology or related sciences and looking to continue to graduate studies, with eight weeks of biomedical research experience in the basic and translational sciences. Research experiences are being provided by faculty members of the Graduate School of Science, Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the Institute of Industrial Science. By the end of their summer experience, students are expected to acquire knowledge and skills for conducting research. The students are also expected to extend their international friendship through the collaborative experiences. These experiences will help the students to develop future collaborations in many situations.

    Capstone module: Students would read the module ‘Field Studies in Biodiversity’ which would include a 1-week field trip to the tropical island, Pulau Tioman, off East coast of Peninsular Malaysia where they would expect to experience unique tropical ecosystems such as rainforest, freshwater stream, mangroves and the coral reefs under the guidance of experienced field biologists.

    Learn another language: Students would take introductory courses in either Chinese or Indonesian language (which are amongst the top 14 languages spoken in the world).To learn a new language in 5 weeks, students would need to be prepared to invest time and effort (3-4 hours of classes daily, 5 days a week).

    The University of Sussex offers a large range of interdisciplinary modules and small group teaching. The International Summer School provides an opportunity to meet and study with people from different countries and cultures, on a cosmopolitan campus. The University campus is on the edge of Brighton, located by the sea and one hour from London.


    An International Summer School module is a self-contained, formally structured credit-bearing unit of study, each has its own learning outcomes and assessment criteria. Each module carries 15 credits and lasts for four weeks. Since the standard annual load for a Sussex student is 120 credits, this means that each module is equivalent to four semester hours or 7.5 ECTS credits. You can take only one module per session.
