HKUST Spark Global

Program description

HKUST Spark Global is an initiative to foster a global university experience for the HKUST student community. Many HKUST students possess some form of global experience either from study abroad, work experience, their personal travels, or from their upbringing. We also have many students who are eager to take their first steps into the community of global citizenship.

Student Internship (Part-time)


Through a close working partnership between the Office of Global Learning and the recruited student team, HKUST Spark Global empowers students to make active contributions to create global university experiences for their fellow students. These include experiences on campus, such as opportunities for local and non-local students to interact. They also include experiences abroad, such as promoting overseas learning opportunities. 

An Instagram account (@hkustsparkglobal) has been launched to post student stories and topics related to global learning experiences.

We are looking for students who are dedicated to bring influence to the HKUST community, proactively identify the needs of different student groups, creative in organizing events and promotion campaigns, and willing to share your thoughts and experiences to other students.

Time Commitment

  • Sep 2021 - Jan 2022*
    *Engagement can be extended until Summer 2022 with mutual agreement
  • Students are expected to work 5 hours per week
  • This is a project-based employment. While students can arrange your tasks flexibly according to your own time schedule and work remotely, students are required to come back OGL office for regular meeting and progress report at least once a week.
  • Working on evenings and weekends may be required.

  1. Social Media Management (Including Instagram ; YouTube):
    • Create social media strategies, including content creation, schedule implementation, written content distribution etc
    • Grow and expand social media presence, including number of followers and number of shares
    • Produce podcasts and short clips/videos related to global learning experience topics
    • Maintain activeness in IG story postage

  2. Activities for students:
    • Ideate, curate and plan events for students, such as orientation, cultural activities, and networking events
    • Sample of activities:
      • Exchange Buddy Program
      • Welcome activities for incoming international students, including orientation, campus tours and activities during the term. 
      • Promotion of study abroad, pre-departure activities, etc.


  • Enrolled for 2021-22 Academic Year (Year 1 and final year students are also welcome to apply)
  • Passionate and sense of ownership of HKUST
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and as part of a team with student peers and staff
  • Previous experiences in event / project / social media management are highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in design and video editing tools, such as Adobe Illustrator, Premiere Pro and/or Final Cut Pro will be a plus.

Renumeration details: Part-time (HK$60/hr)
