Students can apply for these programs with the host institution directly with a registration with GSPO. Students can apply for funding through the HKUST Short-Term Study Abroad Allowance.  Local students on government TSFS means-tested grant/loan can apply for the SSE/SSEBR to support your program participation.     The Amgen Scholars Program at The University of Tokyo aims to provide undergraduate students from different countries (including some from Japan) who are committed to or who are considering a career in biology or related sciences and looking to continue to graduate studies, with eight weeks of biomedical research experience in the basic and translational sciences. Research experiences are being provided by faculty members of the Graduate School of Science, Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the Institute of Industrial Science. By the end of their summer experience, students are expected to acquire knowledge and skills for conducting research. The students are also expected to extend their international friendship through the collaborative experiences. These experiences will help the students to develop future collaborations in many situations.

    Capstone module: Students would read the module ‘Field Studies in Biodiversity’ which would include a 1-week field trip to the tropical island, Pulau Tioman, off East coast of Peninsular Malaysia where they would expect to experience unique tropical ecosystems such as rainforest, freshwater stream, mangroves and the coral reefs under the guidance of experienced field biologists.

    Learn another language: Students would take introductory courses in either Chinese or Indonesian language (which are amongst the top 14 languages spoken in the world).To learn a new language in 5 weeks, students would need to be prepared to invest time and effort (3-4 hours of classes daily, 5 days a week).

    Immerse in the culture of Singapore: Beyond studies, weekly trips and tours around our unique island “Singapore” would be organized for students to experience the fascinating culture, cuisine and sights of Singapore.     Leeds International Summer School

    Leeds International Summer School (LISS) offers you the opportunity to study at the University of Leeds and immerse yourself in British culture as part of an exciting four-week programme. Taking advantage of the vibrant, student friendly city of Leeds, and the rich history, culture and natural beauty of the area, the summer school combines world-class tuition with local knowledge, academic-related field trips, and a wide variety of social activities.

    The Leeds International Summer School runs for four weeks and comprises two modules, each lasting two weeks. Each module is worth 10 Leeds credits so by completing the four-week programme you will receive 20 Leeds credits, equivalent to six US or 10 ECTS credits. You must attend for the full four weeks.

    There is a choice of modules in each block — when you apply you should select one module from each block.

  • University of Sussex
    International Summer School

    The University of Sussex offers a large range of interdisciplinary modules and small group teaching. The International Summer School provides an opportunity to meet and study with people from different countries and cultures, on a cosmopolitan campus. The University campus is on the edge of Brighton, located by the sea and one hour from London.

    An International Summer School module is a self-contained, formally structured credit-bearing unit of study, each has its own learning outcomes and assessment criteria. Each module carries 15 credits and lasts for four weeks. Since the standard annual load for a Sussex student is 120 credits, this means that each module is equivalent to four semester hours or 7.5 ECTS credits. You can take only one module per session.
